Ringlemere Cup

The Ringlemere Gold Cup is a Bronze Age beaker, which was found in 2001 Ringlemere Barrow near Sandwich in the English county of Kent. The form has parallels in the Unetice culture and in Emilia Romagna ( Emilia Montecchio ). It is most similar to the eight inches high, found in 1837 in Cornwall Rillatonbecher.

The heavily damaged by a plow cup was ripped 14 cm high and horizontally. The cup is like pottery with cord decoration of the late Neolithic ( about 2300 BC). Only six similar cup, all of which date from the period 1700-1500 BC, were found in Europe so far. The other examples are from Germany ( 2) Switzerland ( 2), from Brittany ( 1) and a mug of unknown origin.

An archaeological excavation was to bring about the reference to experience more. It was found that the cup comes from a massive round mound grave, which was surrounded by a moat. The investigation also revealed that the cup was hammered from a single gold bars and originally had a pointed base.
