Rinkaby

Rinkaby is a village in the Swedish province of Skåne County and the historical province Scania. The Tätort in the municipality of Kristianstad had 2010 745 inhabitants.

History

In the vicinity of Rinkaby are numerous find spots of stone and bronze ages. Since the 9th century, the site has been permanently settled.

The Church of Rinkaby was built in the mid-13th century. The original church ceiling was replaced in the late 15th century by a Gothic vaulted ceiling, which is decorated with frescoes on the type of Vittskövlegruppe.

1651, the entire city was destroyed by a devastating fire.

The agricultural community was 1800-1960 one of the priorities of the Swedish tobacco cultivation. The fourteen received Tabakdarren are under monument protection.

On the neighboring military base 1945/46, who fled to Sweden members of the German Wehrmacht were interned, which were handed over to the Soviet authorities in the Baltic delivery.

Infrastructure

By Rinkaby run the Länsvägen 118 and decommissioned in regular passenger Åhusbanan, both of which connect with Aahus Kristianstad. A resumption of passenger service on the Åhusbanan, possibly as a tram-train is currently under investigation.

East of Rinkaby is since 1900 a military training area with shooting range and airfield. Since 2000, a portion of this area is used for major events of the Swedish Scout Association Svenska Scoutrådet; 2001 and 2007 there were large warehouse with more than 20,000 participants each place. 2011 was organized in 2011 with more than 40,000 participants from 143 countries on that site the 22nd World Scout Jamboree.
