Rio Claro is an inland city of the Brazilian state of São Paulo, with 187 637 inhabitants ( 2011). The city is located at 47 ° 33 ' West and 22 ° 24' South, in the Greater Region Piracicaba at a distance of 190 kilometers to the city of São Paulo. The municipality covers a territory of 490 km ².
Originally founded under the name São João Batista do Ribeirão Claro, the city was first renamed throughout its history in São João do Rio Claro and 1905, then in Rio Claro.
