Río Grande, Puerto Rico

Río Grande is a municipality in the northeast of the U.S. foreign territory Puerto Rico. It is located north of Las Piedras, Ceiba and Naguabo, east of Loíza and Canóvanas and west of Luquillo. In 2010 there were about 54,000 people in Río Grande.

History

The city was founded on July 16, 1840 by Desiderio Escobar and Escobar Quilimaco and approved by Governor Miguel López. It was named after the Rio Grande, a Puerto Rican river and built where the Rio Grande flows together with the Espírito Santo Rio.

Economy

Agriculture

Agriculture in Río Grande is on a moderately developed level. Are grown primarily fruits, ornamentals and vegetables, also cattle is grown.

Industrial and commercial

In Río Grande are small, mostly independent textile factories. In addition, there are numerous local businesses. About a shopping center, the city has not, as the shopping district Canóvanas ' is in the immediate vicinity. Nevertheless, there are two medium-sized shopping streets on the 65th and the 956th, but still have many vacancies, since this type of shopping bundling is still relatively new to the city.
