River Irvine

Lower reaches of the Irvine

The Irvine is a river in Scotland. It rises 247 m in height about ten km west- south-west of Strathaven north of Loudon Hill. The Irvine initially flows for 1.5 km in a south-westerly direction, forming the boundary between the regions of East Ayrshire and South Lanarkshire, before he veered off to the west. The predominant flow direction to the west was eponymous for the Irvine, as the name of gaelic " Iar - on " is derived, meaning " west " means. After 48 km of Irvine opens at Irvine in the Irvine Bay, a secondary bay on the southern shore of the Firth of Clyde.

The Irvine flows through the towns of Darvel and Galston, Kilmarnock before he finally reached where it receives one of its largest tributaries to the Kilmarnock Water. West of Kilmarnock first forms of Irvine the border between East Ayrshire and South Ayrshire and then for a short distance between South Ayrshire and North Ayrshire. On his last kilometers in North Ayrshire Irvine River in the Annick Water and the Garnock absorbs before it flows into the Irvine Bay. A large part of the run follows the A71 to Irvine and crosses it several times.
