The River Teifi ( Teifi Afon ) is a river in the county of Ceredigion, Wales, which flows into the sea below Cardigan. The catchment area of the river is estimated at 1008 square kilometers. The average annual runoff at Glan Teifi of 31.026 m³ / s The maximum recorded discharge rate (up to 1970) was recorded on 17 December 1965 269.7 m³ / s. The average rainfall varies from 155 mm in the upper reaches up to 1176 mm in the lower reaches of the river.

Geography

The river has its source in Llyn Teifi, one of several lakes that are referred to in the aggregate as Teifi Pools. These are located in the northern part of the county of Ceredigion. This vast area in Mid- Wales, which is sparsely populated, is part of a region that is sometimes referred to as a desert of Wales. The river passes through the Strata Florida Abbey and flows through Pontrhydfendigaid before it reaches the main portion of its valley. Here it flows through one of the great fells Britain, Gors Goch Glan Teifi or Tregaron Bog. During the next 50 km, the river meanders in a smooth arc generally to the southwest, the villages and towns Tregaron, Llanddewi Brefi, Cwmann, Lampeter, Llanybydder, Llandysul, Newcastle Emlyn, Cenarth, Cardigan Llechryd and finally happened. The river is already subject to the tides below Llechryd and reached Cardigan between the steep banks of Cilgerran Gorge through. Below Cardigan, the river widens into a broad estuary, on the banks of the seaside resort of Poppit Sands is before it empties into Cardigan Bay.
