RMS Arlanza (1912)

The Arlanza (I) was put into service a 1912 passenger ship in the British shipping company Royal Mail Line. After 26 years of service, the ship was scrapped in 1938 in Blyth.

The ship

The 15,044 -ton steamship Arlanza was built at the Harland and Wolff in Belfast, Northern Ireland and ran on 23 November 1911 by the stack. The 173.8 meters long and 19.9 wide passenger and mail ship had a chimney, two masts and three propellers and was powered by triple expansion steam engine, which allowed a speed of 17 knots. The passenger accommodations were first class travelers for 380, 250 second class and 700 third -class travel. She was the sister ship of 1913 that entered service in Andes ( I) ( 15,620 GRT).

The Arlanza was provided for the passenger and mail service from Southampton to South America in service. It was built on the same platform, on the above, the Olympic of the White Star Line was born. Next, the construction of the Britannic was launched on the same ramp, the sister ship of the Olympic and the Titanic.

From 1915 to 1920, the Arlanza served as armed merchant cruiser ( Armed Merchant Cruiser) in the First World War. After the war, the Arlanza was again active in the civilian passenger traffic until it was scrapped in September 1938 in Blyth.
