Roar Hauglid

Roar Hauglid ( born December 26, 1910 in Christiania, † 18 November 2001 in Oslo) was a Norwegian art historian and antiquarian Empire.

Life

Hauglid was the son of the teacher Kristian Hauglid (1864-1927) and Helen Hansen (1871-1946) was born. His nine years older brother was the glass painter Borgar Hauglid. Roar Hauglid completed the exam of Arts at the Kathedralsschule in Oslo in 1929 and the French exam in 1933. Afterwards, he studied art history at the University. During his studies he spent several years working voluntarily at the Norwegian Folk Museum and was on study trips in Europe. Hauglid wrote while studying treatises on the Ornamentikmotive. This meant that the kingdom antiquarian Harry fat was early recognized his talent for the analysis of the ornamentation and took him in 1936 in his staff.

1937 ended Hauglid his master's thesis on the ornamentation of the Setesdalens stave church portal ( Setesdalens stavkirkeportaler. Study En i portalornamentikkens history ). In 1939 he was appointed antiquary. In 1940 he married Marie Goro Bøhler (* 1914). She is the daughter of farmer John Bøhler (1880-1964) and Marie Lynne ( 1881-1936 ). 1946 Hauglid was appointed the first antiquary ( første antikvar ). He took care of the collections of several local museums. In 1950 he finished his dissertation on acanthus in the Norwegian wood carving. The thesis was published in three volumes. He was the first to antiquarian as well as the responsibility for the 1954 conducted exhibitions in Brussels and Paris over 1000 years of Norwegian folk art. 1958 Hauglid Empire antiquary was. He cared for the preservation of many Norwegian monuments and not shied away from confrontation with the authorities. Due to his persistence, he got the nickname of "peaceful warrior ". Under his leadership, the empire was expanded bookseller. Despite its filled agenda, he published many scientific papers. Between 1973 and 1976 he published his results in the stave church research, which includes over 1000 pages. In 1977, he went into retirement. He died on 18 November 2001 in Oslo.
