Roar (TV series)

Conor, the Celt (Original Title: Roar ) is an American fantasy series in the vein of Xena and Hercules. It was aired on the U.S. cable channel Fox 1997. The German premiere took place in 2000 on RTL Television. The series was canceled after only one season with 13 episodes.

Action

The series takes place in the 4th century. The Roman army has occupied most of Europe and is now trying to expand their influence on Ireland. After the young Conor had to watch as his tribe was killed, and then his lover was murdered by her own father, it only drives a goal: He wants to unite the tribes to fight for Ireland's freedom. He is assisted by Fergus, his protector from childhood, Tully, a young magician, and Catlin, a former slave. Together they fight against the evil Queen Diana and the mysterious Longinus. While the Queen is trying to subdue Ireland, Longinus pursuing other goals. He, Jesus of Nazareth with the stoch spear into the side, was cursed to live forever. He examined his spear and has allied to this end with the Queen.

Background

The series was broadcast on the peak of the Xena and Hercules wave on the Fox 1997. Fox beamed only from eight of the 13 episodes, and then the station took the series from the program. The five missing episodes were sent only in 2000 on the Sci Fi Channel. In Germany, RTL acquired the rights and beamed the series from January to May of 2000.

Reception

In spite of the failure of the series won a number of awards. 1998 Composer Jon Ehrlich was nominated for an Emmy Award. 1998 won the series the Golden Reel Award in the category Best Sound Editing - Television Episodic - Dialogue & ADR, and the 1999 Award of Distinction for cameraman John Stokes.

Episodes

The episodes 1-8 were broadcast in the U.S. on Fox, the remaining three years later on the Sci Fi Channel, coinciding with the RTL broadcasting.
