Rob Roy (novel)

Rob Roy is a novel by Walter Scott and acts by Frank Osbaldistone, the son of an English merchant, who rises up in the Scottish Highlands. The Scottish folk hero Rob Roy, after which the book is named, comes in the novel before several times, but is not the main character (in fact, the action takes place until the middle of the book is not in Scotland).

The plot of the novel is set during the first Jakobitenaufstandes The Fifteen. It is criticized as disjointed, especially the end seems very rushed. Critics were disappointed that Rob Roy is not shown impressive. The book has otherwise received a generally positive review.

Rob Roy was written in the spring of 1817 and published in the Scottish Hogmanay feast day in the same year. Like the novel Waverley, the book was published anonymously and was published in three volumes. The demand for the book was enormous, a whole boatload full of specimens was shipped from Leith to London. Scott visited Loch Lomond and the Cathedral in Glasgow for research purposes for the novel.

As in the eponymous film, the character is based on a true personality, but the story is pure fiction.

Films

In 1995, the same film Rob Roy was shot. It was directed by Michael Caton- Jones, actors are, inter alia, Liam Neeson, Jessica Lange, John Hurt and Tim Roth. It is not here, however, a film adaptation of the book. There is also a movie of the Disney Studios from 1953 with a similar title: Rob Roy, the royal rebel (Rob Roy, the Highland Rogue ).
