Robert A. Mayer

Robert A. Mayer (* 1933, † December 2, 2008 in Scottsdale, Arizona) was from 1981 to 1989 director of the renowned George Eastman House. He made the controversial proposal, from photographs, films and cameras to transfer the museum collections consisting of the Smithsonian Institution in Washington. The Supervisory Board approved the transfer of the museum was originally founded in 1985, took the decision but later returned and led a $ 10.5 million comprehensive fundraising campaign, of which $ 7.8 million was spent on a new building to house the collections. From 1990 to 1997 Mayer served as president and chief executive officer of the Cleveland Institute of Art
