Robert Balchin, Baron Lingfield

Robert Balchin, Baron Lingfield DL ( born July 31, 1942) is a British educationalist and life peer in the House of Lords.

Balchin is Prokanzler at Brunel University and chairman of the ARNI foundations. Furthermore, he is chairman of the League of Mercy and Deputy Lieutenant of Greater London. Previously, he was from 1984 to 1990 General Manager of St. John Ambulance. From 1989 to 1999 he was on the board of education Grant - Maintained Schools Centre and from 1995 Board of Management. He has written many articles on education theory and policy issues.

From 2006 to 2012, he was Principal Knight ( Bureau of the Assembly ) of the Imperial Society of Knights Bachelor and since 2004 Ehrencolonel of the Army Cadet Force Humberside and South Yorkshire. He is a Freeman of the City of London and Liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths and the Worshipful Company of Broderers.

Balchin was collected on 17 December 2010 as Baron Lingfield for Life Peer. He sits for the Conservative Party in the House of Lords. His school initiative was referred to by the Deputy Chief Editor of the Daily Telegraph Benedict Brogan as "the first and perhaps the most important consideration in future milestone, which was reached by the coalition ". Lord Lingfield speaks in Parliament mainly to education issues.
