Robert Dean Smith

Robert Dean Smith ( born 2 May 1956 in Kansas, USA) is an American tenor.

Career

Robert Dean Smith was born in Kansas, USA, and studied voice with Margaret Thuenemann at Pittsburg State University. He also studied saxophone and played in various classical and jazz ensembles. Then he continued his vocal studies with Daniel Ferro at New York's Juilliard School.

How many heroes tenors Robert Dean Smith began his career as a baritone and was heard until his change of subject over several years to small houses in Germany with lyric baritone roles. He then moved with his wife and teacher Janice Harper into tenors. Smith was in the 1990s firmly committed at the Mannheim National Theatre.

Smith is primarily known for his interpretations of Walther von Stolzing in Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg and the title role in Lohengrin. At the Bayreuth Festival was to experience as Siegmund in Die Walküre Robert Dean Smith in 2005 and 2006 as Tristan from 1997 to 2002 as Walther von Stolzing from 2000 to 2002 as Lohengrin and from 2001 to 2004. In the seasons 2008 to 2012 he played there again in the title role of Tristan and Isolde.
