Robert Freeman Hopwood

Robert Freeman Hopwood ( born July 24, 1856 in Uniontown, Fayette County, Pennsylvania, † March 1, 1940 in Saint Petersburg, Florida ) was an American politician. Between 1915 and 1917 he represented the State of Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Robert Hopwood attended the public schools of his home, and was occasionally taught by private tutors. After a subsequent law degree in 1879 and its recent approval as a lawyer, he started in Uniontown to work in this profession. At the same time he proposed as a member of the Republican Party launched a political career. He was the district board in Fayette County. Between 1881 and 1891 he was also the legal representative of the city of Uniontown; 1894 to 1912 he served as District Attorney. From 1905 to 1920 he headed the Uniontown Hospital.

In the congressional elections of 1914 Hopwood was the 23rd electoral district of Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he succeeded the Democrats Wooda Nicholas Carr on March 4, 1915. Since he has not been confirmed in 1916, he was able to complete only one term in Congress until March 3, 1917.

After the end of his time in the U.S. House of Representatives Robert Hopwood again practiced as a lawyer. He died on 1 March 1940 in his winter residence Saint Petersburg and was buried in Uniontown.
