Robert HP Platz

Robert HP Platz (* 1951 in Baden -Baden ) is a German composer and conductor.

Life

Course studied from 1970 at the Musikhochschule Freiburg music theory, piano and conducting. He studied composition, subsequently, Wolfgang Fortner and Elmar Budde. When Hans Bender, he also studied for a time parapsychology. In 1973, space at the Cologne University of Music and studied with Karlheinz Stockhausen. He joined The conductor training started in Freiburg from there with Francis Travis.

From 1978 to place was a scholarship holder of the Südwestrundfunks Heinrich Strobel Foundation. As a result, he lived for some time in the U.S. and Paris. Place in Paris in 1980 attended at IRCAM (Research Institute of Acoustics / Music ) a computer course for composers. The resulting tape was there part of his work composed in 1981 Chlebnicov ( for chamber ensemble and tape ), which was premiered during the festival of the "International Society for Contemporary Music " ( ISCM ) in Brussels in 1981.

In 1980 Place founded the ensemble Cologne, which was dedicated to the interpretation of contemporary music. This ensemble, composed for, inter alia, Mauricio Kagel, Giacinto Scelsi and Iannis Xenakis, headed place until its dissolution in 2001. Moreover worked Place as a guest conductor with the Ensemble Modern, the Radio Symphony Orchestra of the WDR and SWR symphony orchestras Freiburg and Baden- Baden. On the Künstlerhof Schreyahn lived Place 1989/1990 and was invited to spend the 1990 Rockefeller Foundation for several weeks in the United States as composer in residence. This was followed by lectures and teaching as well as stays in Japan, the Netherlands, Poland and the USA. At the Darmstadt Summer Course took place in part as a lecturer and worked particularly as a conductor at the music festival Musica, Strasbourg, Rencontres Internationales, Metz, Holland Festival, the Salzburg Festival and MUSIC TODAY in Tokyo.

Since 1990 Course teaches composition at the Conservatory of Maastricht. In 2000 he took over the artistic direction of the festival Schreyahner autumn. Since 2005, Robert HP Platz is also a board member of the Electronic Studio of Liège ( Bureau du Directeur des Recherches et Centre de Formation Musicales de Wallonie / CRFMW ).
