Robert John Tillyard

Robin John Tillyard ( born January 31, 1881 in Norwich / England; † January 13, 1937 ) was an Australian entomologist.

He was born in Norwich, England, to the BA the University of Cambridge, he traveled to Australia, where he worked as a mathematician and science master at Sydney Grammar School. 1913 began a Research Scholarship from the University of Sydney. In 1917 he published The Biology of Dragonflies and 1916 The Insects of Australia and New Zealand, which has been for over 50 years the standard work of the Australian Entomology. He published much about Odonata, Plecoptera, Neuroptera, and other orders, as well as extinct insects, and the phylogeny of insects. In 1928, he became the first chairman of the newly created Department of Economic Entomology at the CSIRO.

The Royal Society of New South Wales awarded him the 1931 Clarke Medal.
