Robert Lloyd (bass)

Robert Andrew Lloyd ( born 2 May 1940 in Southend -on-Sea, Essex, England ) is a British opera singer ( bass).

He studied in London at the baritone Otakar Kraus and debuted in 1969 in the British capital as Don Fernando in Beethoven's Leonore, the original version of "Fidelio". 1969-1972 he sang at Sadler 's Wells Theatre, since 1972 in Covent Garden, and as a guest in the world. He sings in both English repertoire ( Claggart in Benjamin Britten's opera Billy Budd, the priest and angel of death in Edward Elgar's oratorio "The Dream of Gerontius ") and German ( Sarastro - The Magic Flute, GURNEMANZ - Parsifal ), Italian ( Bartolo - The Barber of Seville ), French ( Arkel - Pelléas et Mélisande ) and Russian parts ( Boris Godunov ). Robert Lloyd is the most important British bass player since Raimund Herinckx.
