Robert N. McGarvey

Robert Neill McGarvey ( born August 14, 1888 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, † June 28, 1952 ) was an American politician. Between 1947 and 1949 he represented the State of Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Robert McGarvey attended the public schools of his home and then the Business College of the University of Pennsylvania. In the following years he worked in the telegraph service and as head of a news agency. Since 1922 he worked in the investment industry. Politically, he was a member of the Republican Party.

In the congressional elections of 1946, McGarvey was in the second electoral district of Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he succeeded the Democrat William T. Granahan on 3 January 1947. Since he lost in 1948 against Granahan and this thus regained his old mandate, he was able to complete only one term in Congress until January 3, 1949. This was marked by the events of the early Cold War.

After his time in the U.S. House of Representatives Robert McGarvey worked again in the investment industry. He died on 28 June 1952 in Philadelphia.
