Robert Orr, Jr.

Robert Orr Jr. ( * March 5, 1786 at Hanna Town, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, † May 22, 1876 in Kittanning, Pennsylvania ) was an American politician. Between 1825 and 1829 he represented the State of Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Even in his youth, Robert Orr moved with his parents in the Armstrong County. Later, the family settled in the local town Kittanning. He attended the public schools of his respective home. In 1805 he was deputy sheriff in Armstrong County. Otherwise, he studied land surveying. Finally, he was appointed deputy head of district land surveying. During the British - American War of 1812 he served in the U.S. Armed Forces, where he rose to colonel. At the same time he proposed as a member of the Democratic-Republican Party launched a political career. Between 1817 and 1820 he sat as an MP in the House of Representatives from Pennsylvania; 1821 to 1826 he was a member of the State Senate. In the 1820s he joined the movement to the future President Andrew Jackson.

Following the resignation of Mr James Allison Orr was at the due election as his successor in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he took up his new mandate on 11 October 1825. After a re-election, he could remain until March 3, 1829 in Congress. After the end of his time in the U.S. House of Representatives, Robert Orr devoted to the military. He reached the rank of general. He died on 22 May 1879 in Kittanning at the age of 90 years.
