Robert Petway

Robert Petway (* probably 1907 in Yazoo City, Mississippi, † probably unknown in Chicago, Illinois, date of death ) was an American blues guitarist and singer. His version of the trad Catfish Blues ( 1941) was processed by Muddy Waters to hit Rollin 'Stone, after which later, the Rolling Stones named. Jimi Hendrix took the Catfish Blues on.

About his life little is known. Petway is probably born on October 18, 1907 in Yazoo City. He had in 1941 and 1942 his only recording sessions. There is only one photo of him. He lived in Mississippi, where he also appeared, often with Tommy McClennan.
