Robert Rochester

Robert Rochester (* 1494, † November 28, 1557 ) was a Catholic politician in England.

Family

He was the eldest son of John Rochester and his wife Grissell. His younger brother was John Rochester. He was a monk and was among the victims of the Pilgrimage of Grace in 1888 and beatified by the Pope.

Life

To 1551 he was appointed to the household of Princess Mary. During the same period statement was issued that no priest should hold a private exhibition. He refuses to implement this immediately. Because of his refusal, the princess to interfere with a fair, he was arrested and taken to the Tower. But after about a year he was released because of health problems and also gained after a short time his previous post again.

When Mary after the death of Edward VI. ascended the throne, she remembers him. They gave him the post of Chancellors of the Duchy of Lancaster, and in 1555 briefly the post of Lord Privy Seal.

Death

He died on November 28, 1557 just before he was appointed Knight of the Garter.
