Robert Van Eenaeme

Robert Van Eenaeme ( born August 27, 1916 in Wondelgem; † March 8, 1959 in Marche- en- Famennian ) was a Belgian racing cyclist.

Robert Van Eenaeme was a professional cyclist from 1939 to 1949, with a war-related interruption of two years. His greatest successes were three victories in the race Gent- Wevelgem, 1936, 1937 - as an Independent - and 1945 as a professional. On his third victory, he was not declared until a week after the race winner after he was seen on a photo that he had not crossed Maurice Van Herzele first the finish line. This makes it one Rik Van Looy, together with Eddy Merckx, Tom Boonen and Mario Cipollini on the record winners of this race. In 1942 he won the Omloop van België and the Championship of Flanders. In the same year he won at the Tour of Flanders third.

Van Eenaeme died at the age of 43 years following a traffic accident.
