Robert W. Chambers

Robert William Chambers ( born May 26, 1865 in Brooklyn, New York City; † December 13, 1933 in the Village of Broadalbin, New York) was an American painter and successful author of fantastic literature.

Quaint work

In Brooklyn Chambers turned to painting autodidact to; later, he studied painting in Paris. In 1893 he returned to America and worked in New York as an illustrator.

Literary work

Only later he began to write books. Until his death, he wrote about 70 novels, including The King in Yellow, which is considered as a bridge between Poe and the modern in fantastic literature.

Most of his novels have been quite successful at that time, but today they are almost unheard of.

Elements from the King in Yellow are sold by Marion Zimmer Bradley (see Darkover novels ) and HP Lovecraft taken.

Lovecraft used the motif of a supernatural being, as it represents Chambers' The King in Yellow, in many of his works - and continues to the end of his essay History and Chronology of the Necronomicon following Hommage à Chambers, " is from the rumors about this book [ the Necronomicon ] Robert W. Chambers have related the incident to his early novel the King in Yellow. "
