Robert William Thomson

Robert William Thomson ( * 1822 in Stonehaven, Kincardineshire, Scotland, † March 8, 1873 in Moray Place, Edinburgh) was a Scottish inventor.

Thomson was born in 1822 and baptized on July 26. He invented decades before John Boyd Dunlop a pneumatic tire inflated from animal intestines. He was christened on December 10, 1845 a patent on the vulcanized rubber tires.

However, nobody could do something with it. The bike was in its infancy, Thomson's idea and patent came quickly into oblivion. Nevertheless, he let his tires in the UK, in France and in the United States patent. In 1849 he patented a fountain pen. He also developed a technique to ignite explosive charges electrically.
