Roberta Alexander

Roberta Alexander (born 3 March 1949 in Lynchburg, Virginia, USA) is an American soprano.

Roberta Alexander grew up in a musical family. In 1969 she began her studies at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor and in 1971 with Hermann Woltman at the Royal Conservatory of Music.

She made her debut in 1980 as Pamina at the Houston Grand Opera. In Europe she made ​​her debut on June 5, 1982 in the Komische Oper in Berlin as " Mimi " ( Director: Harry Kupfer, Conducted by Rolf Reuter ). In the same year she sang in Zurich Electra in Mozart's opera Idomeneo. After the following tour of Europe in 1983, she went to New York at the Metropolitan Opera. Here she sang in the following years, great roles such as Mimi in Puccini's La Bohème, the role of Fiordiligi in Mozart's Così fan tutte and the role of Donna Anna in Don Giovanni. In the following years she went back to Europe, first to the Royal Opera House Covent Garden. Then she sang in all the major opera houses in Berlin, Hamburg, Vienna, Zurich and Venice. Further engagements followed at New York's Carnegie Hall, the Vienna Musikverein, London's Wigmore Hall and the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam.
