Roberto Moreno

Roberto " Pupo " Moreno ( born February 11, 1959 in Rio de Janeiro) is a Brazilian automobile racing driver.

Career

The childhood friend of Nelson Piquet took a total of 75 times in the training part to a Formula 1 Grand Prix as a driver 1982-1995. However, he could only 42 times qualify for participation in a Grand Prix. Moreno drove in Formula 1 for Lotus, AGS, Coloni, EuroBrun, Benetton, Jordan, Minardi, Andrea Moda and Forti and was able to win 15 championship points.

The relatively long Formula 1 career was repeatedly interrupted by prolonged pauses. Many team leaders saw in Moreno only a spare man who could replace a failed root pilots temporarily. Already during his Formula 1 debut at Zandvoort in 1982, he represented the injured Nigel Mansell in the Lotus, but missed with two seconds behind the qualification for the race.

In 1987 he took part in two races for the team AGS. At the last race of the season at the Adelaide Street Circuit, he was sensational sixth. 1988 Moreno was on a Reynard -Cosworth won the International Formula 3000 championship. 1989 Moreno returned back to Formula 1. With its piloted in this season Coloni, however, he could be in 16 World Championship races qualify only four times and was eliminated in all race prematurely.

1990 Moreno drove the first 14 races of the season for EuroBrun Racing; but could again only qualify for two races. In the race for the Grand Prix of Japan and Australia, he represented in the Benetton team the injured after a Hubschrauberasturz Alessandro Nannini where he was second behind Piquet in Japan. In Australia, he finished seventh. 1991 Moreno drove the first eleven races of the season for Benetton and was replaced by Michael Schumacher at Monza. The next two races he drove for Jordan and the last for Minardi.

Since 1996, Moreno drove in the Champ Car Series (USA). In 118 races Moreno started for eleven teams and won two races. In America, Moreno has earned the nickname " Supersub " - in German about "super- compensation ". He is said to be able to start without a great flow for each team, with each car and on each route.

Today Moreno lives in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
