Rochebaudin

Rochebaudin is a commune with 123 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Drôme in the Rhône -Alpes; it belongs to the arrondissement of Nyons and the canton Dieulefit.

Geography

Rochebaudin located on an average altitude of 611 meters above the sea level below the 971 m high Serre- major in the south of the Drôme Provençale.

The village is eight kilometers ( 12- miles ) north of Dieulefit and 25 kilometers east of Montelimar away. Neighboring municipalities are Félines- sur- Rimandoule, Pont -de -Barret, Dieulefit, Le Poet-Laval and Eyzahut.

Demographics

History

The oldest known written mention as Rochabaudunum dates from the year 1332. Residents are called les Rochebaudinois or Rochebaudinoises. The place is a former fortress of the Counts of Valentinois. Later, she came to the county Clermont. The outlying village and the church remained relatively unscathed in the Huguenot wars from 1562 onwards.

Rochebaudin is now a popular starting point for mountain walks and a regional pilgrimage site.

Attractions

  • The Romanesque chapel of Notre -Dame-de - Sénisse, a former monastery church from the 12th century, restored in 1833. She was already in the Middle Ages a Marian pilgrimage, especially from May 5 to August 1. Contemporary reports claimed it was the inhabitants of the region as an honor to be buried in the cemetery next to the chapel. Today's pilgrimage is 15 August, Assumption. The chapel is listed as a national architectural heritage since 1926.
  • Remains of two castles from the Middle Ages to rock spurs above Rochebaudin.
