Rockmaster

The Rock Master in Arco, Italy is one of the oldest, annual climbing competitions in sport climbing and is often referred to by climbers as the " unofficial world championship ." He is in the disciplines of difficulty ( Lead), Bouldering and Speed ​​discharged and will take place on the first or second weekend in September.

History

The Lead Rock Masters competition has been held since 1987. In the first year, he still took place at the modeled routes of natural rock of " Colodris ", and since 1988 he is carried out on artificial walls. In the first two years, each won the American Lynn Hill and German Stefan Glowacz. Meanwhile, the Rock Master has been removed located in the permanently installed " Arco Climbing Stadium ", about 200m from the center of Arcos, misplaced. The stadium is also used outside competitions as a climbing wall.

Since 1998, Speed ​​and Bouldering competitions take place in the context of the rock master. The boulder competition is being held under the name " Sint Roc Boulder Contest".

Since 2002 there is also "Rock Junior", a rock climbing competition for children aged 5 to 13 years as well as families. This usually takes place in June.

2010 took the Rock Master as " pre-event " in preparation for the 2011 then instead of the Rock Master in Arco held World Championships, so that participants no longer invited, but were nominated by the participating countries themselves. For the first time a team -speed competition was part of the skirt Masters, at the start of a team of three climbers in a vertical " relay race " against other teams. 2011 will not take the Rock Master, for Arco was from 15 to 24 July the venue of the eleventh Climbing World Cup.

Mode

The Rock Master is an invitational competition.

A few months before the competition, the ten current best men and women of the Lead World Ranking will be invited. In addition, each two " wildcards " award, for example, at highly qualified young climbers. The Lead competition is carried out in two passes, one -sight passage ( the competitor, the wall can only briefly shown ) and a second " Afterwork " passage ( the competitor, the route shown previously extended period of time and try ). In bouldering eight women and men are invited. The competition itself is conducted in a knockout system. In four bouldering divorced from each poorest.

Records
