Rocky Johnson

Wayde Douglas Bowles ( born August 24, 1944 in Amherst, Canada) better known by his ring name Rocky Johnson, is a retired Canadian professional wrestler. Johnson's biggest success as an active wrestler was during its commitment to the World Wrestling Federation of the receipt of the WWF Tag Team Championship title along with Tony Atlas. So they were the first all African-American team, which received the highest team title in wrestling. His son is the actor and wrestler Dwayne Johnson, by whom he was introduced into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2008. His brother James was active under the name Ricky Johnson also as a wrestler.

Career

In his career, Bowles appeared as " Soulman " Rocky Johnson for the National Wrestling Alliance ( NWA), World Wrestling Federation (WWF) and many other promotions. The highlight of his career is considered winning the WWF Tag Team title along with Tony Atlas, whose tag team The Soul Patrol was allowed as the first African-American Tag Team keep the title.

Bowles was in the seventies, several times a top contender to the NWA World Heavyweight Championship and came here against such well-known wrestlers such as Terry Funk and Harley Race. He has won several tag team titles and was 1983 World Wrestling Federation, where he tag team The Soul Patrol was formed along with Tony Atlas. They defeated the Wild Samoans ( Afa and Sika Anoai ) on 15 November 1983 at the WWF Tag Team to win titles. Johnson married Ata Maivia, the daughter of "High Chief" Peter Maivia, and was a member of the Samoan wrestling family, which produced several successful wrestler. 1972 Dwayne Douglas Johnson, her son was born.

After 1991 he ended his career, he worked as a truck driver and later he trained along with Pat Patterson his son Dwayne. Originally he did not want Dwayne gets in the wrestling business, but used his influence to make it in the WWF under contract. At first, he accompanied his son to the ring and attacked favor of his son in a match. After Dwayne (a combination of his father's and his grandfather's first name surname ) as a crowd favorite not arrived under the name Rocky Mavia, this was converted under the name of The Rock to the arrogant villain who of course was not accompanied by his father.

Bowles worked in 2003 for a short time for Ohio Valley Wrestling as a trainer, but was released in the same year. On 29 March 2008 he was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame.
