Rodalb

The Rodalb, also called Rodalbe, is a nearly 26 -km-long river in the western Palatinate ( Rheinland - Pfalz) and an orographic left tributary of the Black Bach.

Course

The Rodalb rises in southwestern Palatinate Forest south of the city of Pirmasens near the hamlet Rodalberhof in about 380 m altitude. Initially it flows north-east and passes through the local churches Lviv and Ruppertsweiler. Then she turns to the north, accompanied 2 km the highway 10 and flows through Munchweiler. In the district Riegelbrunnerhof she takes the Merzalbe from the right on their strongest inflow and changes direction again, this time to the northwest. Here it flows through the small town Rodalben. At the hamlet Biebermühle it opens from the left in the Schwarzenbach.

Name

The origin of the name is not entirely clear waters. As alb designated in the La Tène period resident Celts rivers or streams. For the part of the name Rod, but mainly Roth, there are two possible explanations. For one, the red sand of the river bed of the names that can be given, on the other hand, the fact that wide meadows and arable land were created in the flood plains by the Roden ( Rotten ) of forests.
