Rodalies Barcelona

Rodalies Barcelona (Catalan for, transport Barcelona ', in Spanish Cercanías Barcelona) is a suburban rail network in the Spanish city of Barcelona and the surrounding countryside in the Catalonia region. It is from the Spanish rail company RENFE ( since 1 January 2010 on behalf of the Catalan regional government ) and the Catalan Regional Railways ( FGC) run. The net is comparable to the German S-Bahn networks, however, some lines have more the character of a regional train.

Infrastructure

The network consists of seven lines, which connect the city with the surrounding area. Although the lines S1- S55, the FGC likewise have an S -Bahn - like character, but will not count the actual Rodalies network due to their higher station density. The lines R5 and R6 are also operated by the state railway company of the Catalan FGC on a narrow gauge infrastructure; the remaining lines of the national railway RENFE ( Rodalies R1 -R4 and R7 and R8) broad gauge base. The FGC lines start under the Plaça d' Espanya in a tunnel that is shared by subways of the same operator. The terminal stations of lines C1 to C4 are located up to 100 km from the city; in Spain, it is quite common that the S-Bahn trains have a greater line length, of which only some trains go the full distance. Some rides the line C3 are performed from Vic as regional train via Ripoll and Planoles to Puigcerdà on the French border in the Pyrenees.
