The Rodenbek is a left tributary of the River Alster and together with Bredenbek and Lottbek and several smaller streams that melt water - flow system in Rodenbeker Quellental, which was formed during the Weichsel glaciation.

Like the other rivers flowing in Quellental the Rodenbek in east-west direction to the Alster, a tributary of the Elbe.

In the Rodenbek addition to occurring in the Alster fish species and burbot, moderlieschen, dace and stickleback were observed. The 2.8 acres of tranquil overgrown with water lilies Rodenbeker ponds are managed by the Sport Fishing Association Rahlstedt of 1934 eV and filled with carp, tench, pike, perch and eels.
