Roderich von Erckert

Roderich of Erckert, also R. of Erkert or R. d' Erkert (* December 15 1821 in Kulm, † December 12, 1900 in Berlin) was a German ethnographer, cartographer, and officer in the Russian service.

Life

Erkert was Guards officer and member of the Russian Geographical Society. He explored the culture and languages ​​of the peoples living in Russia and the Caucasus and here about various scientific publications and travel reports.

Erkert published several maps, inter alia, six cards over an area between the Warta and the Dniepr, thus giving an overview of the Polish nationalities of the various parts of the country in Russia. Later he turned to the peoples and languages ​​of the Caucasus. Here he explored, inter alia, The Georgian Military Road. Most recently, he devoted himself to so popular in the 19th century German research.
