Rodney Elton, 2nd Baron Elton

Rodney Elton, 2nd Baron Elton ( born March 2, 1930) is a British politician and Conservative member of the House of Lords.

Lord Elton was educated at Eton College and New College (Oxford). The son of Godfrey Elton, 1st Baron Elton inherited the title from his father after his death in 1973. During the formation of the Conservative government after the parliamentary elections in 1979 became Lord Elton Parliamentary Under-Secretary, Ministry of Northern Ireland. In 1981, he joined the Ministry of Health and Welfare, 1982 in the Ministry of Interior. In 1984, he became Minister of State at the Home Office. In 1985, Lord Elton Secretary of State in the Ministry of Environment. He retired the following year from the government.

With the passing of the House of Lords Act 1999, Lord Elton lost like almost all Erbpeers his seat in the House of Lords. However, he was chosen as one of 90 selected Erbpeers in the House of Lords.

Lord Elton was a candidate for the post of Lord Speaker in the elections in June 2006, but he lost to Hélène Hayman, Baroness Hayman.

Lord Elton is married to Susan Richenda (born Gurney, 1937), currently Lady of the Bedchamber of Queen Elizabeth II and a descendant of Sir Lancelot Douglas Carnegie.
