Rodrigo Leão

Rodrigo Leão ( born 1964 in Lisbon ) is a Portuguese musician and composer.

He became famous for his musical compositions and his participation in Portuguese bands. He was co-founder of the bands Sétima Legião (1982) and Madredeus (1985). As his solo career took shape, he decided in 1993 and 1994 to opt out of these bands.

His solo work combines a combination of modern - classic compositions with more traditional song - forms and instrumentation. Various artists have contributed to his recordings and tours, such as Lula Pena or Adriana Calcanhotto in Alma Mater and Beth Gibbons and Ryuichi Sakamoto in Cinema.

His album Cinema was very successful in Portugal: It reached number one in the sales charts and the concerts in Portugal and Spain were frequently sold out. In this album you can see the eclectic roots of his music and the influence of cinema. He has repeatedly supplied the music for film and television productions, most recently in the French- Portuguese, cheerful and melancholic film production Portugal, mon amour.
