Roger Teillet

Roger -Joseph Teillet PC ( born August 21, 1912 in St. Vital, Manitoba; † 1 May 2002) was a Canadian business leaders, entrepreneurs, insurance representatives and politicians of the Liberal Party, who was for several years a Member of the House of Commons and Minister.

Life

Teillet, who came from a so-called Métis family, and thus was a descendant originating from France fur trader and an Indian mother, was a great-nephew of Louis Riel, who was briefly also a Member of the House of Commons.

In 1939 he joined the Royal Canadian Air Force ( RCAF ) and served during the Second World War in the 35th Squadron in the last rank of Captain (Flight Lieutenant) as a navigator before he fell into German captivity in 1942. After his release from captivity and his return to Canada in 1945, he worked as a business manager, insurance agent, and as an entrepreneur.

His political career began Teillet in his home province when he was elected as a candidate of the Liberal Party on June 8, 1953 to the Legislative Assembly of Manitoba and a member of this to zum13. May 1959 the electoral district of St. Boniface represented.

In the general election of June 18, 1968, he was first elected as deputies in the lower house and took this to 25 June 1968, the constituency of St. Boniface. During this time he was a member of several committees and Permanent waived at the general election in 1968 for reelection.

On April 22, 1963 Teillet was appointed by Prime Minister Lester Pearson to the Minister of Veterans Affairs in the 19th Canadian Cabinet. He remained in this function also from April 20 to July 5, 1968 in formed by Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau 20 Government of Canada.
