Rohtas Fort

The fort of Rohtas ( Urdu قلعہ روہتاس ) in the north of present-day Pakistan, Punjab was commissioned in 1541 by Sher Shah as a complex of massive defense structures in order.

The main fortifications are made of about four kilometers long thick walls, which are pierced by monumental gates. Within these walls there are several bastions.

Since the complex was never captured, he's received almost intact to this day. Therefore, the fortress of Rohtas is one of the most important examples of the beginnings of Islamic military architecture in Asia.

Since 1997, the fort is one of the UNESCO World Heritage Site.
