Rolf Meyer

Rolf Meyer ( born November 12, 1910 in Suderode; † February 3, 1963 in Todtglüsingen ) was a German screenwriter, film director and film producer.

Life

Meyer - son of a captain who died - temporarily attended a high school in Berlin and began training as opera conductor there. His first contacts with the film earned him an internship as an editor. Starting in 1936, he provided numerous screenplays, especially for comedies, which were realized mainly by Tobis.

In 1947 he made ​​his directorial debut with migratory birds and received on 1 April of the same year the British license to establish a film production company. In Bendestorf south of Hamburg, its young film - Union, whose sole owner, he was created. From 1947 to 1951 he produced so that 19 feature films and several shorts and documentaries, several times he led himself directing. In 1950 he was a board member of the Association of German Film Producers, 1951 Member of the Board of Directors of the New German newsreel.

The changing economic situation after the currency reform forced Meyer, who was also handicapped by a serious car accident in November 1951, to file for bankruptcy for his company because of financial difficulties in 1952.
