Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Asunción

The Archdiocese of Asunción (Latin: Archidioecesis Sanctissimae Assumptionis ) is an Archdiocese of the Roman Catholic Church in Asunción, capital of Paraguay.

The Archdiocese was posted on July 1, 1547 as the Diocese of Paraguay, a suffragan of the Archdiocese of Lima, by Pope Paul III. founded; first bishop was the Spanish Franciscan Juan de los Barrios, OFM. By Pope Pius XI. the diocese was raised on 1 May 1929 Archdiocese; first archbishop was the Paraguayans Sinforiano Bogarin.

The current limits of the Archdiocese are congruent with those of the administration and the district capital of the Republic of Paraguay.
