Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Lanzhou

The Archdiocese of Lanzhou (Latin: Archidioecesis Lanceuvensis ) is a Roman Catholic archdiocese based in Lanzhou in the People's Republic of China.

History

Pope Leo XIII. founded the Apostolic Vicariate of Gansu on June 21, 1878 annexations of the Apostolic Vicariate of Shaanxi. The name, Apostolic Vicariate Nordgansu, it took on 28 April 1905.

On March 8, 1922, received from the Apostolic Vicariate of southern Gansu areas and at the same time took the name, Apostolic Vicariate Westgansu on. The name, Apostolic Vicariate Lanchowfu, it took on 3 December 1924. With the Apostolic Constitution Quotidie Nos it was raised on April 11, 1946 Metropolitanerzbistum.

In the early eighties the secret bishop Philip Yang Li -bo were consecrated on February 15 died in 1998 at the age of 80 years, after he spent nearly 30 years in prison. In January 2003, the secret Bishop Joseph Han Zhi- hai was ordained that caused the unity of the official and secret churches through an open letter.

Parts of its territory it lost in favor of the establishment of the following dioceses:

  • April 28, 1905 at the Apostolic Vicariate of southern Gansu;
  • May 25, 1936 at the Apostolic Prefecture Kiangchow;
  • February 4, 1937 at the Apostolic Prefecture of Xining.
