Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Malabo

The Archdiocese of Malabo (Latin: Archidioecesis Malaboensis ) is a location in Equatorial Guinea Roman Catholic archdiocese based in Malabo.

It includes the Equatorial Guinean island of Bioko. The Ecclesiastical Province of Malabo extends with the suffragan Bata and Ebebiyin all over Equatorial Guinea.

History

On October 10, 1855, the Apostolic Vicariate of Annobón, Corisco and Fernando Poo Islands was established, to which also included the present-day areas of Equatorial Guinea. On 12 May 1904, was renamed the Vicariate Apostolic of Fernando Poo and was until May 3, 1966, when it was raised under the name of Santa Isabel to the diocese. As of April 14, 1974, the diocese was called Malabo and was raised on 15 October 1982 Archdiocese.

Cathedral

Episcopal Church of the Archdiocese of Malabo is the Santa Isabel Cathedral (built 1897-1916 ) in Malabo. Built during the colonial period in the Spanish- Gothic style cathedral was designed by Luis Segarra Llairadó.
