Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Niamey

The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Niamey (Latin: Archidioecesis Niameyensis ) includes Niamey and other regions in the west of Niger.

History

On April 28, 1942 parts of the territory of numerous Apostolic vicariates and apostolic prefectures North and Central Africa have been summarized in the Apostolic Prefecture of Niamey. On May 13, 1948, the Apostolic Prefecture of Niamey were from parts of its territory establishing the Apostolic Prefecture of Parakou. Other annexations took place on February 12, 1959 establishing the Apostolic Prefecture Fada N'Gourma and on 12 March 2001 establishing the bishopric of Maradi. On March 21, 1961, the Apostolic Prefecture of Niamey was raised to the bishopric. On 25 June 2007, Pope Benedict XVI. the bishopric to an archbishopric and imputed to him the bishopric, suffragan of Maradi.
