Roman Catholic Diocese of Ambikapur

The Diocese of Ambikapur (Latin: Dioecesis Ambikapurensis ) is a Roman Catholic diocese in India. It is a suffragan of the Archdiocese of Raipur and consists of the districts of Surguja and Koriya.

History

The bishopric was established November 1977 was divided as the diocese of Raigarh - Ambikapur. First bishop was the Jesuit Philip Ekka. Originally, the diocese was under the Archdiocese of Bhopal as Suffragandiöze. However, after the diocese was elevated to an archdiocese Raipur 2004, the Diocese of Ambikapur became its Suffragandiöze.
