Roman Catholic Diocese of Balsas

The Diocese of Balsas (Latin: Dioecesis Balsensis ) is a located in Brazil Roman Catholic diocese based in Balsas in the state of Maranhão.

History

Pope Pius XII. founded the Territorialprälatur Santo Antônio de Balsas on 20 December 1954 with the Apostolic Constitution Quo modo sollemne out of territory of the Diocese of Caxias do Maranhão and it became the Archdiocese of São Luís do Maranhãoals suffragan assumed.

In 1967 it was extended to the territory of five municipalities. With the bull Institutionis propositum it was collected on 3 October 1981 for the diocese.
