Roman Catholic Diocese of Barra do Garças

The Diocese of Barra do Garças (Latin: Dioecesis Barragartiensis ) is a Roman Catholic archdiocese based in Barra do Garças in the Brazilian state of Mato Grosso.

Territory

The diocese comprises the following municipalities in the Brazilian state of Mato Grosso: Barra do Garças, Água Boa, Canarana, General Carneiro and Nova Xavantina.

History

The Diocese of Barra do Garças was on 27 February 1982 with the Apostolic Constitution Cum in pastorali munere founded out by Pope John Paul II from the diocese Guiratinga. On 23 December 1997, the diocese was a part of its territory from the foundation of the Territoralpräfektur Paranatinga.

It is now a suffragan of the Archdiocese of Cuiabá.
