Roman Catholic Diocese of Salto

The Diocese of Salto (Latin: Dioecesis Saltensis in Uruguay) is a Roman Catholic suffragan in Uruguay, located in the city of Salto. Diocesan Bishop Pablo Galimberti Jaime di Vietri.

History

The Diocese of Salto was erected on April 14, 1879. Territorial it emerged from the diocese area of Montevideo. On November 15, 1955, and December 17, 1960 parts of their own diocese territory for the creation of the dioceses of San José de Mayo and Mercedes were provided. In the Diocese of Salto living in 16 parishes about 320,000 Roman Catholics. Pastoral they are cared for by sixteen diocesan priests and fifteen priests in the Diocese of Salto. The pastoral ministry also ensure seventy-two sisters and nineteen monks. Canon law is under the Diocese of Salto, suffragan of the Archdiocese of Montevideo.
