Roman Catholic Diocese of San Cristóbal de Venezuela

The Diocese of San Cristóbal de Venezuela (Latin: Sancti Dioecesis Christophori in Venetiola ) is a location in Venezuela Roman Catholic diocese based in San Cristóbal de Venezuela. It covers the state of Táchira.

History

Pope Pius XI. founded the diocese of San Cristobal de Venezuela with the Apostolic Constitution ad munus on October 12, 1922 from cessions of territory of the diocese and the Archdiocese of Mérida Caracas was assumed as suffragan. With the elevation of the bishopric to Metropolitanerzbistum Mérida on June 11, 1923, was part of the new ecclesiastical province.

On 7 June 1954, lost part of its territory to the Prefecture Apostolic of San Fernando de Apure. On 31 October 1964, founded with the Bull Precibus Venerable a cathedral chapter.
