Roman Catholic Diocese of Santorini

The Diocese of Santorini (Latin: Dioecesis Sanctoriensis ) is a location in Greece Roman Catholic diocese based in Santorini. It includes the Southern Cyclades: Santorini, Anafi, Ios, Folegandros and Sikinos.

History

The diocese was erected in 1207 and reflects the history of the island.

In 1630, the island of Santorini had some 700 Catholics of the Latin rite. On March 30, 1930, lost the island Astypalia with the Archbishop of Rhodes.

1947 was united in persona episcopi with the Diocese of Syros and Milos.

The cathedral is dedicated to John the Baptist, which is at the same time only church of the diocese. Patroness of the diocese is the Virgin Mary.
