Roman Catholic Diocese of Sapporo

The Diocese of Sapporo (Latin: Dioecesis Sapporensis, Japaneseカトリック 仙台 教区, katorikku Sapporo Kyoku ) is a location in Japan Roman Catholic diocese based in Sapporo.

History

Pope Benedict XV. founded the Apostolic Prefecture Sapporo on February 12, 1915 from cessions of territory of the diocese of Hakodate. Using the Breve Ad animorum it was raised on 30 March 1929 Apostolic Vicariate, which was the archbishopric Tokyo assumed as suffragan.

On 18 July 1932, lost part of its territory for the establishment of the mission sui iuris Karafuto. For Diocese of it was raised on 11 December 1952 which was the archbishopric Tokyo assumed as suffragan.

Territory

The Diocese of Sapporo Hokkaido Prefecture includes, ie the entire island Hokkaidō.
