Roman Catholic Diocese of Sokodé

The diocese Sokodé (Latin Dioecesis Sokodensis ) is a diocese in Togo, a bishopric is the cathedral in Sokodé. The diocese covers 12,610 km ² and 816,000 inhabitants, of whom about 15 % Roman Catholic faith. In the 11 parishes in the Archdiocese had a 2004 24 diocesan priests and religious priests 8.

History

The diocese Sokodé was separated on 18 May 1937 as Apostolic Prefecture by the then Apostolic Vicariate of Togo. On September 14, 1955, the Apostolic Prefecture was raised to the bishopric. The dioceses Dapaong ( 1960 as Apostolic Prefecture Dapango ) and Kara (1994 ) were released from the bishopric Sokodé.
